The Maseru Magistrate Court through Magistrate ‘Makopano Rants’o has convicted a 60- year- old Molefe Polasi of Khubetsoana, Ha-Rankhala with culpable homicide of Malefetsane Ntulo he committed on December 15, 2008.

The court also suspended half of the sentence for a period of two years on conditions that Polasi is not convicted with same crime again over the stipulated period.

According to evidence tabled before court, Polasi’s daughter, Reitumetsi told the court that she and her parents were sleeping at home at around 11 pm when they heard a person they did not know knocking at the door several times and asking that the door be opened.

Reitumetse told the court that her mother, ‘Mamorena switched on the light while at the same time the person at the door pushed the door and forced his way inside the house and met with his father who had already taken cover behind the door and started stabbing him several times with a knife.

She also explained that the intruder ran outside but her father followed him still continuing to stab him after which the intruder fell on the ground.
It is within this commotion that Reitumetse told the court that her mother ran to one of the neighbour’s house while the intruder also managed to stand up from where he was being stabbed and ran way.

Reitumetse told the court that after the intruder and her mother had ran away, her father told her that the intruder he stabbed was Ntulo from the village and further that Ntulo was reported dead the following morning.

Polasi pleaded guilty to the charge and in mitigation, his Lawyer Advocate ‘Naki asked the court to have mercy on Polasi saying he already pleaded guilty to the crime that happened 10 years ago and that he has no previous convictions.

Advocate ‘Naki also told the court that Polasi was defending his family from the deceased who was also having intimate relationship with his wife, the issue which had caused a rift between Polasi and his wife, the latter who has since left Polasi to South Africa and has never returned home to date.

She also told the court that Polasi is a breadwinner for his grandchild.
